Patch release: v1.07

03-9-09

We've updated Lyuban to work with the latest version of the Spring Engine (v0.80.4), and put up the updated installer and such for download.

This is just a few bugfixes - don't worry, this is does not represent what we've been working on over the summer. The "M" series release will be epic in scope, and hopefully not far away.

Spring: 1944 Operation Lyuban (v1.06) Released!

08-6-09

The next Spring:1944 release is finally ready! This is not a major version change (hence staying in the "L" series) but is a serious improvement nonetheless. You can find a full changelog here: clicky.

Major improvements/changes include: significant buildtree restructuring, adapting the 'fear' system to include planes, a first draft of the "game master" toolset for constructing special scenarios, and some serious speed improvements. Check it out!

Things to look forward to in the next release: navies, new armor system for tanks, and general excellence.

Issues Resolved: New Web Host

2-2-09

We've moved to a new host courtesy of Spring community member _koshi_. Things should run more smoothly now. The forum has moved across too, so you will need to re login to reset your cookies - all posts and user data has been preserved.

Thank you for your patience while we got this fixed, and thanks again to _koshi_!

Spring: 1944 Operation Konstantin (v0.92) Released! (Plus Installer!)

05-2-09

The Spring: 1944 Team is proud to announce the first true public release of Spring: 1944! After months of work, we finally feel confident enough to release this beast to the world at large. After a short period of semi-public testing within the SpringRTS community, we've bugfixed and issue-resolved and packed Spring: 1944 into an autonomous installer, complete with the SpringRTS engine, Spring: 1944 files and maps, and the necessary tools to play.

Visit our Downloads page to find all the files necessary to download Spring: 1944. You can also hit up our forums to drop us a line, make a suggestion, report a bug, find players, or simply join our little community.

A big thanks to all the players who helped us weed out the bugs from the Koltso release, big thanks to the SpringLobby dev team, big thanks to the Spring development community, and of course, a big thank you to our contributors and fans!

Update on map update...?!

29-1-09

Okay, so I continued to screw up. If it wasn't missing textures, it was broken heightmap. Kiev, Caucasus_Skirmish and Road_To_Rome maps have once again been updated -- this time, to V3 for Road_To_Rome and V4 for Kiev and Caucasus_Skirmish. Bocage_Skirmish was the only one not affected by my screw-up-ery. To check the latest version of any of our maps, look at the downloads section; the latest version will be included with the map name, for example, "Road To Rome (V3).

Map Updates/Bugfixes for Kiev, Caucasus Skirmish, and Road To Rome

28-1-09

Oops! In my haste it seems I overlooked a missing texture file for the above three maps. This will cause a crash if certain building features are destroyed during your game (and you'll get a missing WreckedWood.dds message).

The new versions of the map (dubbed _V2) have been uploaded and are available on the downloads page. Simply download these like you did the others, and delete the faulty version (it will not overwrite as it has a different filename). Sorry for the inconvenience!

Spring:1944 Operation Koltso (v0.9) RELEASED!

28-1-09

IT'S HERE!
It would be impossible to describe how much has changed and improved since the last release (over a year ago!) so all we can say is check it out yourself - hit up the Downloads page now right away!

Not only is the game released, but four new/reworked maps as well - Kiev, Road to Rome, Bocage Skirmish, and Caucasus Skirmish. And what's even better? You can play this most-excellent game for free.

Don't forget to /join #s44 in the Spring lobby, and we'll see you all ingame!

New features! And things. And maybe a release?

22-12-08

Despite our prolonged quiet, we have not been idle. FLOZi's territory capture system has been finished and extensively tested, his new system for suppressive fire and infantry fear level has just been fully implemented, and the infantry scripts have been entirely rewritten to include much-improved animations, as well as the ability to crawl under fire.

With these pieces falling into place, we're heading back into pre-release mode! I'm currently working on the basics of a tutorial system, while the rest of our work is mostly play-testing at this point.

Given that, we're going to start taking play testers onboard again. So if you think you can commit to playing a lot of S44 over the next few weeks, give us a shout on our forums in the sign-up thread.

Happy holidays, all.

S44 Team Looking for Marketing/Public Relations Manager

20-09-08

We're recruiting! Unlike a gazillion other projects out there, we're not in dire need of coding or other technical help (although we'd always love more, particularly skinners/2d artists!). We are searching for a dedicated marketing and public relations person. We've been doing it ourselves for the most part, but as release season approaches we'd like to focus on polishing the game itself.

If you have a talent for taking screenshots, putting together gameplay videos, and writing newsposts, we'd like to hear from you! Check the Contact page for information on how to get in touch with us.

As for the game, it is progressing beautifully (but quietly). FLOZi recently finished coding our territory capture system, I'm in the process of writing a whole new set of infantry animations, and Yuritch has been steadily expanding our set of naval models.

As ever, stop by #s44 on the spring lobby, or check out our forums for more frequent updates/discussion of the game.

An update to remove that super-depressing headline...

05-02-08

Boo! Work rolls onwards! A huge amount has been accomplished since the last update here, but some highlights include: heavy tanks and a few more aircraft have been skinned, as well as some Soviet tank destroyers, some anti-aircraft guns are UVmapped, and the awesomeness that is S44 is just getting better.

In other news, we're a game, not a mod!

Also I'll do my best to update this page more often. Hope to see you all on the forums or at #s44 on the spring server!

For those of you who wonder about the lack of a downloadable release - we're working hard on the next one. The previous one was removed to a nasty crashbug which requires an update to the Spring engine.

Spring: 1944 Lite Beta V0.25 Delayed

10-01-08

Unfortunately, we've made nearly zero progress trying to find the source of these crashes. They seem to be coming from some deep, dark corner of some script that we simply can not find. We're at the point that we're asking everyone capable to try to figure out what's causing it. Try to narrow it down as much as possible, and let us know what's up.

02-01-08

Sorry for the inconvenience! We promise to stop Nemo from his bursts of energetic work :)

Spring: 1944 Lite Beta V0.2 Released!

01-01-08

Thanks to all of the feedback from the (literally) hundreds of people who've downloaded both the original v0.1 and subsequent v0.15 releases, we're proud to announce the release of v0.2! (Clicky-clicky for downloady)

v0.2 is actually quite a major change, and contains a lot of bug and balance fixes, a touch of new content and a whole new direction for gameplay balancing. The new changelog.txt can be found inside of the .sdz which details all of the major and minor changes made. These changes have also been appended to the Play Guide, so check that out if you're downloading v0.2.

Again, thanks to all of our fans and players, and especially to the couple dozen of you who've been chatting with us in #s44 and helping spread the word. We appreciate all of your efforts, and hope that our own efforts will be enough to 'keep' you for the long haul.

Now that those pleasantries are out of the way, work has already commenced on the next phase of the installment of Spring: 1944. Several units have already been added to the game and all of their content will be in v0.2, but unable to be built in normal games (we'd prefer to introduce more units at once, to ease the impact on balance their introduction will bring). However, for the curious, a quick check of the unit files inside the .sdz will reveal that USM10Wolverine, GBRM10Achilles, RUSISU152, GERTiger, and GBRChurchillMkVII can be .give'n at the appropriate time to give your unwary opponent a run for his money. :)

Thanks for stopping by, and Happy New Year!
